Ontario Provincials Rock!

Nearly 80 participants took part in our 2025 Racquetball Ontario Provincials, held at Cedar Springs Health & Racquet Club in Burlington. What a great time was had and it was not just the racquetball. Racquetball Ontario Tournament players are just awesome people. It was remarkable how much everyone helped and supported each other through a tough weekend of competition. In Men’s Open Singles, Trevor Webb took home his third consecutive Provincials title, defeating Christian Pocsai in 4 games. As usual, it was a powerhouse battle between Canada’s number 3 ranked Trevor and 7th ranked Christian. To get to the finals, Webb defeated Kyle Wiseman in the semis, while Christian got the best of brother Asher.

Matt Forstner won the Men’s Open Singles consolation bracket, defeating Luke Coughey.

In Female Open Singles, Tammy Gray won the round robin bracket, defeating Eva Pocsai and Alyson Renaldo to claim victory. Pocsai took home second place with her win over Renaldo.

In Open Doubles, a powerhouse lineup of matches occurred, with Eduardo De La Rosa and Sami Harb claiming the championship, defeating Luke Coughey and Julio Torres Torija. Coughey and Torres took out Matt Forstner and Kyle Wiseman in the semis, while De La Rosa and Harb survived a 5th game tiebreaker over Paul Bateman and Asher Pocsai.

Evan Aiello and Christian Pocsai teamed up to win the Open Doubles Consolation, defeating Forstner and Wiseman in a 5th game tiebreaker.

In co-ed Singles A, Jason Dunham took his top seed into the finals, where he defeated Terry Nelson to win the title. Jason defeated Landon Verrall in the semis while Terry defeated Kyrylo Tkach en route to the finale.

Aaron Agnew claimed the Co-Ed A Singles Consolation crown, surviving a 5th game tiebreaker over Jesus Ostos.

In Female Singles A, Joannne Kuczynski won the title, defeating top seeded Talia King in the finale in 4 games. King had eliminated Mercy Coughey in the semi finals while Kuczynski knocked off Kavana Manjunath.

Nadja Coughey won the Female A Singles Consolation title, besting sister Hosanna Coughey in a 5 game tiebreaker.

In A Doubles, the team of Aaron Agnew and Paul McGowan won a 5th game tiebreaker over Dan Andress and Jason Adomeit. Agnew and McGowan defeated the Italian stallion team of Joe Idone and Phil Paolini while Andress and Adomeit took out Jesus Ostos and Kyrylo Tkach to reach the finale.

Tammy Gray and Christopher Jette took home the A Consolation Doubles title, knocking off Evan Aiello and Landon Verrall.

With over 20 competitors, the co-ed B singles division was the biggest draw of the tournament. Drew Cady emerged victorious, defeating Steve Turner to win the B singles title. Turner survived a 5th game tiebreaker over Ted Blomme to reach the finals while Cady advanced with a victory over Felipe Villegas.

Rick MacNeil won the B Singles consolation, defeating Joe King.

In B Division Doubles, it was the team of Joe King and Felipe Villegas who emerged a 5th game tiebreakers over Mark Bristo and Peter White to win the title. King and Villegas defeated Drew Cady and Scott Ledingham to reach the final while White and Bristo knocked off Rick MacNeil and Brendan Schaefer.

The home court Cedar Springs duo of Norm Peck and George Schroeder won the B Doubles consolation over Dave Lampron and Thomas Coughey.

In the C Division Singles, Felix Pothen-Bonnet won the title, defeating Ben Wallis. Pothen-Bonnet defeated Jim Taunton in a 5th game tiebreaker to reach the finale while Wallis received a win over Andy Daniel.

In Female C Singles action, Iwona Budzinska defeated Leila Andersen to win the title. Budzinska defeated Eden Wiseman to reach the finals, while Andersen survived a 5th game tiebreaker over Halen Pocsai en route to the finals.

Halen Pocsai took home the consolation Female C Single title, defeating Ira Pothen-Bonnet.

In C Doubles, Felix Pothen-Bonnet teamed up with Ben Wallis to defeat Lucas Villegas and Asher Wiseman in the finale. Villegas and Wiseman had defeated Ven Raad and Joshua Tansley to reach the finals, while Bonnet and Wallis defeated Andy Daniel and Jim Taunton.

Leila Andersen and Eden Wiseman won the C Consolation Doubles.

In the Junior Advanced (Under 14) division, Lucas Villegas took home the title, defeating Felix Pothen-Bonnet. Villegas defeated Ben Wallis in a 5th game tiebreaker en route to the finale while Pothen-Bonnet eliminated Saish Bhavsar.

Asher Wiseman won the Junior Advanced Under 14 Consolation, defeating Ven Raad.

In the Junior Intermediate Under 14 Division, Samuel Wallis defeated Leila Andersen in the finale. Wallis defeated Halen Pocsai on route to the finale, while Andersen defeated Eden Wiseman in the semis.

Halen Pocsai won the Jr. Intermediate Under 14 consolation, defeating Eden Wiseman.

In the Singles 60+ division, Dave Massey defeated Hagen Krueger in a 5th game tiebreaker to win the title. Massey had eliminated Brendan Schaefer to advance to the finale while Krueger knocked off Laszlo Marton.

Rick MacNeil won the 60+ Singles Consolation defeating Peter Halbersma.

Finally, in Mixed Doubles action, Father/Daughter combo Luke and Nadja Coughey defeated Joanne Kuczynski and Jesus Ostos in a 5th game tiebreaker. Team Coughey knocked off the team of Christopher Jette and Mercy Coughey to reach the finals while Kuczynski and Ostos defeated Terry Nelson and Eva Pocsai to reach the final.

Brother/Sister combo Hosanna and Thomas Coughey won the Mixed Doubles consolation in a nail biter 5th game over Manjunath and Turner.

There were lots of great matches that went into a 5th game tiebreaker during the weekend showing how close the contests were and how determined these athletes were to win.
