CANADA MEDALS IN TWO EVENTS AT WORLD JUNIORS

WINNIPEG (December 10, 2022) – Team Canada has won medals in two events at the 2022 World Junior Championships. The championships were held December 3 to 10 in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Christian Pocsai of New Hamburg, Ontario and Ofelia Wilscam of Repentigny, Québec won the bronze medal in the Mixed 18 & Under Doubles category. The highlight for the team was an upset against Team Chile in the quarterfinals. Both athletes have previously won bronze in doubles at the World Junior level.

Leyton Gouldie of Brandon, Manitoba and Asher Pocsai of New Hamburg, Ontario also are bringing home bronze in Boy’s 16 & Under Doubles. This is Gouldie’s first time competing at the World Junior level. Pocsai has won a bronze medal in doubles in the past.

This was the first World Junior Championships event to include the Mixed Doubles event in close to 15 years. years. It’s inclusion is a positive step for the International Racquetball Federation as it gives developing athletes another competitive opportunity at the international level.

198 athletes competed in several age categories, representing 11 nations. The World Junior Championships are held every year.
