Ontario brings home medals from the 2022 National Championships

Racquetball Canada’s National Championships was held May 24 to 28 in Brossard Quebec. Congratulations to all athletes that were able to participate, and thank you Racquetball Canada and all involved in making the tournament such a success. The live streaming of the event was top quality and greatly appreciated by racquetball lovers across the country that could not make it to the event, thank you JT R Ball, Timothy Baghurst and guest commentator Mitch Brayley.

Here is a breakdown of how our Ontario athletes finished….

Our big winner was Asher Pocsai of New Hamburg bringing home three gold medals by placing first in Boy’s 16 & U Singles, Men’s A Singles and Men’s A Doubles with partner Raphael Guillemette from Quebec.

Trevor Webb of Cambridge played very well taking fourth in both Open Men’s Singles and Open Men’s Doubles with partner Lee Connelll of Saskatoon.

Disney Linares of Toronto was a tough competitor finishing first in Open Mixed Doubles with partner David Serra of BC, third in Open Women’s Doubles with partner Cassie Prentice of Saskatchewan and ninth in the Open Women’s Singles. 

Christian Pocsai of New Hamburg in a competitive Boy’s 18 & U singles division won Silver, placed tenth in Open Men’s Singles and Seventh in Open Men’s Doubles with partner Naman Gauri of Alberta.

Jesus Ostos of Brampton had a rewarding racquetball season winning gold in Men’s B Singles and placing third in Men’s B Doubles with partner Steven Turner of Mississauga.

Halen Pocsai of New Hamburg placed second in Girl’s 14 & U Singles.

Matthew Hudson of Burlington placed second in Junior B Singles and third in Junior Doubles with partner Landon Verrall of Grimsby.

Andrew Cummins of Baden placed second in Junior Doubles with partner Aidan Fanshaw of Manitoba.

Eva Pocsai of New Hamburg placed first in Women’s Singles 45+ and second in Mixed Doubles B with partner Robert George of Alberta.

Many of the matches were live-streamed on Facebook and can be found on Racquetball Canada’s Facebook Page. The matches will also be uploaded to Racquetball Canada’s YouTube Channel in the near future. 

Racquetball Canada also hosted their Hall of Fame induction and Awards Ceremony at the end of the championship event. More information about the Hall of Fame and Awards will be provided in a separate release.
