Pan Am Championships Come to a Close

WINNIPEG (April 16, 2022) – Competition is over for Team Canada at the Pan Am Championships held in Santa Cruz de le Sierra, Bolivia.

After a successful week, highlighted by a gold medal win by Coby Iwaasa and Sam Murray, the team was unable to advance in the Team Event, placing fifth.

The Team Event was once part of the competition schedule for the World Championships and was added to other international events on occasion. To our knowledge, it was last played at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games. The Team Event is “best of three”, where teams face off first in two singles matches. If they win one of those matches, they advance to a doubles match and the winning nation moves on.

Racquetball Canada would like to recognize all members of our Pan Am Championships team for representing Canada proudly. There were many personal successes for all athletes that will help them continue to achieve their high-performance goals.

Thank you to coaches Michel Gagnon and Rino Langelier for their commitment and dedication to our national program as well as the other personal coaches, Tim Landeryou and Evan Pritchard for helping their athletes prepare.

Thank you also to Team Therapist Amy Barrette for her outstanding work and to Team Manager, Jen Saunders for her support of the team heading into the championships and while in Bolivia.

Lastly, thank you to the tournament hosts for their work in making the event a success for all.
