Canada’s Morissette Qualifies for World Games

Michèle Morissette of Baie-Comeau has qualified to represent Canada at the World Games being held in Birmingham Alabama in July of 2022.

Morissette qualified by placing 12th in the Women’s Singles event at the World Championships that were in held in Guatemala City, Guatemala from November 28 to December 6, 2021. She was the only Canadian to qualify.

“I’m pretty happy with my results, said Morissette after she played her final match of the tournament on Monday. “Especially since it’s been 2 years without playing in an international event. I was coming here without expectations but I’m proud to qualify for the World Games and to represent Canada.”

Morissette has represented Canada in international competition at seven events including the 2015 Pan Am Games where she was a member of the team that won bronze in the Women’s Team Event. She has competed in two other World Championships, with this being her best result.

Morissette lives in Québec City and trains at the Peps de l’Université Laval. She has been a member of Racquetball Canada’s elite national team since 2014.

The World Games were originally scheduled to take place in 2020 but were postponed due to the pandemic. The World Games is an 11-day international multi-sport event organized with the support of the International Olympic Committee. An anticipated 3,600 elite athletes from over 100 countries will compete in more than thirty sports.
